AMU, Standalone Merging Unit

Monitoring advanced power systems requires a robust, reliable solution that’s been field-tested and proven. Vizimax’s AMU technology provides high-accuracy measurements of AC currents and voltages, helping customers across industries effectively monitor, protect, and control their switchyard equipment.

The Vizimax AMU converts analog AC currents and voltages acquired from conventional instrument transformers (CTs and PTs) into high accuracy digital messages or Sampled Values (SV). They are then published over a substation process bus in compliance with the IEC 61850-9-2LE and IEC 61869-9 standards to be used directly by bay controllers and/or protection relays.

Key Features:

  • Current acquisition: Four (4) current inputs (1A, 5A) from conventional current transformers (CT)
  • Voltage acquisition: Four (4) voltage inputs (69 to 220 Vac) form conventional voltage transformers (PT)
  • IEC 61850-9-2 conversion: converts the analog values into digital messages using the IEC 61850 protocol
  • Digital value publication: Published in form of sampled values (SV) that comply with the light edition (LE) of the UCA guide for implementing IEC 61850-9-2 (9-2 LE)
  • Publishes two IEC data streams simultaneously, no matter the format (IEC 61850-9-2LE and IEC 61869-9)
  • IEC 61850 GOOSE Messaging Publisher (GOOSE Messaging Subscriber also available)
  • Time synchronization: PTP1588 Ethernet clock or fiber/electrical PPS input or by GPS input

Benefits:

  • Manufacturer-agnostic solution can extend the life of existing CTs and PTs, or upgrade new equipment with cutting-edge capabilities
  • Cost-effective design eliminates the need for copper cables by replacing them with Fiber optic cables or RJ45 Ethernet links
  • Complies with the most stringent industry standards for safety and performance, including IEC 61850-9-2LE and NERC CIP
  • Creates an analog interface between existing CTs and PTs and new command/control/protection installations
  • Convenient and flexible, AMU is a single platform that can either be installed in a control room or integrated into outside junction boxes
  • The AMU’s rugged construction can resist extreme temperatures from -40°C to +85° C
  • Remotely manage its secure web interface to access event logs. alarms, status, and system configurations
PMU, Phasor Measurement Unit

Increase situational awareness, reduce uncertainty, and make well-informed decisions. Vizimax Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU) technology is a cutting-edge synchronized analog data. Its rugged platform can handle stressed and disturbed power systems, microgrids, electrical islands, and renewable energy/storage systems.

Vizimax PMU is designed to monitor, protect, and control high and medium voltage power systems. Its high-accuracy platform is able to acquire and publish data at a very rapid pace, including measurements of current and voltage synchrophasors, current and voltage direct sequences, frequency, and ROCOF.

Key Features:

  • P class accuracy equals M class accuracy for reporting rate up to 60 frames per second
  • Adjustable reporting rates: Up to 200/240 frames per second for 50/60 Hz, allowing faster operation for control and protection systems
  • Complies with C37.118 (2005 and 2011) and IEC 61850 GOOSE messaging
  • Unique adaptive algorithms allowing 3 phases and single-phase capabilities
  • Broad variety of time synchronization methods from external sources and precision clocks, either standalone or networked. Optional built-in GPS receiver allows for external sources or clocks.
  • Can be bundled with the Vizimax RightWON controller to achieve a no-latency, near real-time data broadcast over Ethernet
  • Offers the option to publish analog values in the form of sampled values (SV) that comply with the light edition (LE) of the IEC 61850-9-2 and the IEC 61869-9 standard

Benefits:

  • Reliably rejects harmonics and out of band interferences, making it an ideal solution for microgrids, power islands, or renewable energy systems
  • Provides outstanding performance in stressed power systems and Disturbance Energy Resources (DER)
  • Improves situational awareness, monitors power angle / voltage / frequency, and improves dynamic stability monitoring and analysis abilities
  • Compact and rugged design is ideal for implementation throughout transmission and distribution networks
  • Remotely manage its secure web interface to access event logs, alarms, status, and system configurations
